How Our Family Uses Essential Oils

I am sure you all have heard of essential oils, I feel like they are everywhere these days! However with so much information floating around, the whole concept can get get pretty confusing, especially if you are new to the world of oils. I chat about them regularly over on Instagram, and how we integrate them into our lifestyle, so I am excited to share in more detail how we use essential oils in our home!

A little background on why I decided to give them a go

I was raised in a home that was health concious as far as the foods we ate, however it wasn’t until I was in college that I started paying attention to the effects of our environment and the products we put on our skin – the body’s largest organ. Through a series of health related issues, and headaches whenever an artificial plug in or scented candle was around, I started dedicating more of my time to researching and really enlightening myself on the presence of the chemicals and toxins we are exposed to on a daily basis.
What I found was both saddening and empowering at the same time – I was sad to learn that the U.S has very few regulations on what is allowed to be manufactured and sold in our beauty and household products. It left me feeling angry, realizing that our government really ISN’T looking out for us, which in turn made me feel empowered to become my own healthcare advocate for myself and my family.

Why Your Baby’s Gut Health Matters

This post is sponsored by Evivo but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

My personal whole health journey began when I ended up on months of IV of antibiotics after getting a secondary infection after my knee surgery. The antibiotics completely destroyed my gut health, resulting in various ailments, intolerances and sensitivities in the years that followed.

Now as a mother of two, I am very conscious of the importance of gut health and the vital role it plays in our immune systems and the overall well-being of our bodies. I’ve recently spent some time researching probiotic use in babies, and how it can strengthen the immune system, help with allergies, ease eczema, etc. Continue reading

Travel Approved: The Perfect Day Trip Diaper Bag

This post is sponsored by JJ Cole but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

We’ve been lucky enough to go to Disney twice so far this year. The first time was completely on a whim, so absolutely no preplanning, crazy I know. The second time I had a bit more time to plan ahead and bring everything I wish I had the first go round. We are an active family and I travel with the kids pretty frequently, but I have to say a trip to Disney is a great gauge for the durability and versatility of any kid product!

One of the things I wish I had was a bag that was large enough (but not too large) to hold two kids (and two adults) worth of stuff. And stuff meaning, drinks, snacks, diapers, wipes, extra clothes, ibuprofen, bandaids, extra bows (hello, girl mom), ponchos, toys, sunscreen, makeup, money, an umbrella, and anything else we would need for a sun-up to sun-down day at the parks. Basically, it needed to be large enough to fit everything in my magic mom bag, but not too big. It needed to be comfortable to wear and versatile enough to bring with us on rides, in restaurants, hook onto the stroller, etc. And of course it needed to look good! Continue reading

Easy Toddler Meals for Busy Families

This post is sponsored by Happy Family Brands but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

I can’t believe I am sharing my little Evie girl eating big girl food! I mean, I basically just brought her home from the hospital!

Eating healthy has always been a priority for me, especially now that I have kids. We try to eat organic and non-GMO whenever possible – I follow the Dirty Dozen List on items we try to always get organic. But, we are also really busy. We all know that eating healthy can be a real challenge for busy families – especially when you have kids sensitive to artificial colors and preservatives.  Continue reading

Birth Story: Everly Anne – The Healer Of My Heart

As I approached the day we would meet our rainbow baby, I felt increasingly anxious and ((hello)) scared. My heart was broken from losing our son last year and I didn’t know if reading birth stories was going to help or hurt – did I really want to know about other peoples birthing pains? Close calls and interventions? Surely it would just freak me out even more…. Eh, I normally loved birth stories so I went ahead and read a few. Actually, the more I read, the more relaxed I became. I can’t tell you how many I consumed in the weeks leading up to her birth! These stories not only reminded me of how incredible God is in his beautiful design to bring new life into the world but also in his design and creation of the woman. Continue reading

Happy Heavenly Birthday + A Note to Grieving Mothers After a Miscarriage or Stillbirth

Earlier this month was our sweet baby boy’s first birthday in heaven. I really can’t believe it’s already been a year… the shortest, yet longest year of my life, for many reasons.

Though we never got to bring him home, have him wear all the “little brother” shirts we had gotten for him, or snuggle on the couch as a family, we will forever hold him in our hearts and we can smile knowing he is beyond happy in heaven.

I’ll be totally honest, the weeks surrounding his birthday left me emotionally drained. Continue reading
